If you are going to be out fishing for bass, trout, pike, perch, crappie, walleye, salmon, steelhead or some other tasty panfish, eventually you will need a really good and delicious tartar sauce recipe. This is my own secret tartar sauce recipe. Eating fresh fish that you have caught and cleaned yourself is a healthy choice. Why ruin it with a chemical bomb tartar sauce from the grocery store? I try to cook healthy for my family. I generally use organic or natural ingredients whenever possible. I find that organic spices, herbs and vegetables have more flavor than conventionally grown ingredients. The real secret to good cooking is starting with the right ingredients. Feel free to substitue other ingredients that you have around the house. I am sure the tartar sauce will still taste fine.
2 cups organic mayonaise
1/4 cup of diced organic onions
1/4 cup of diced dill or bread and butter pickles
1/2 cup of organic fresh dill (fresh dill is a must have)
1 tablespoon of organic chopped garlic
1 teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar with the mother
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
I always cook to taste. At this point you should try the homemade tartar sauce and see what it needs according to your taste buds. You may eat it right now, but the tartar sauce will taste better if you chill it in the fridge for awhile. I hope this makes your next fresh fish fry a success.
